Join us to celebrate the final weekend of Pohewa Pāhewa and the energy of Māori music with one of our most legendary groups – U.H.P.

Join us to celebrate the final weekend of Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma and the energy of Māori music with one of our most legendary groups – U.H.P.

U.H.P. burst onto the scene in 1988 with the release of E Tu, touted as Aotearoa’s first rap record. Their kaupapa driven rhymes were a turning point in our music history and in 2018 the group were inducted into NZ Music Hall of Fame.

Upper Hutt Posse has been releasing albums consistently over the last four decades, delivering a Māoritanga take on rebel music. Four of their albums feature in Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma and we are thrilled to be able to host an intimate acoustic set with them as part of the closing weekend of the exhibition.

Join us from 4pm for an opening set by two more legends of Aotearoa sound – James Pinker, musician, visual and sound artist and curator and Philip Kelly, artist, designer and musician.

U.H.P. lineup is Te Kupu (vocals/guitar), M.C.Wiya (vocals/bass), Ruben Gonzales (percussion), Ahurei (keyboard)
