This awesome Q&A session explores “patchwork plotting” an alternative way of building narrative from fragments, images and moments, showing how seemingly disconnected ideas can be shaped into a compelling whole.

Our guest speaker Anne Kennedy taught this popular workshop in July at Writefest 26 and people have been asking when they can find out more ever since.

Join Anne in discussion with writer & writing coach Kathryn Burnett as they dig into how patchwork plotting works as a writing process.

NB: This is for all writers but particularly those who find linear plotting restrictive or who already possess folders full of promising fragments!

About Anne:

Anne is a poet, novelist and teacher. Recent books: The Sea Walks into a Wall; The Ice Shelf; editor of Remember Me: Poems to Learn by Heart from Aotearoa New Zealand. Current editor of AUP’s New Poets series. Her awards include the Prime Minister's Award for Poetry and the NZ Post Book Award for Poetry. She has taught creative writing at the University of Hawai`i and Manukau Institute of Technology. She lives in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Kathryn is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, public speaker and writing coach who runs super inspiring writing workshops and the Writing Room. She recently completed her role as the Story Producer on Libertine Picture's series "Secrets at Red Rocks" and her latest produced project is "Nicola Cheeseman is Back" which premiered in 2024 and has been programmed in several festivals across Aotearoa.

She is the author of "The Productive Writer Guidebook" and has facilitated panels for the Auckland Writers Festival, the Screenwriting Research Network Conference 2017, the SPADA conference and the Fourth World Conference of Screenwriters in Berlin (2019).
