Event description
Women on Top as is curated to bring people together for a night of stories about careers, survival, success and songs by special guests

About this event

WOMEN ON TOP is back for a 4 part Winter 2022 series starting on Thursday June 30th!

This is an event that celebrates women and is open to anyone and everyone that wants to be a part of this 🤍

As Our Place Tauranga has now closed its doors , we have moved to the beautiful Elizabeth Cafe & Larder. The team at Elizabeth will be offering a wide range of both non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages as well as Fried squid, fries , sandwiches, salads and sushi for purchase throughout the night ( yum).

Women on Top is specially curated to bring people together for a night of stories about careers, survival, success and songs by special guest speakers and performers.

Our host for the event is our favourite, now MRS Rachel Taane ( congrats Rach!). Rach is a registered social worker and all round incredible wāhine and we’re very chuffed to have her back on stage hosting our line-up.

*Which charity are we auctioning / raffling for?

For the June 30th event , we are raising funds at our auction and raffle for the Tauranga Breast Cancer Support Services Trust. The Trust employs support workers who have been through Breast Cancer themselves and is governed by a wonderful group who give their time, passion and expertise voluntarily.

With the slowing down of medical care and hospital visits during the pandemic, it is now more important than ever to provide people with the necessary tools and information on breast cancer screening.

Here’s your June 30th Line-up!

JO CUMMINS

Co Founder of ‘Girls Get Off’

Some crazy things happened during the great lockdown of 2020 haven’t they ? One fine day over a lockdown pink gin, Jo Cummins and Viv Conway ‘toyed’ with an idea of a wellness product that would satisfy women and not so long after the brand ‘ Girls Get Off’ was born .

If you were at the real OG Women on Top you will remember Viv’s 15 mins of lols as she read out reviews on the now ever so popular ‘Miss Mini’.

Jo is the other half of this rapidly and ever growing women’s brand which is becoming so much more than just a little pink vibrator.

Jo who was already popular in business as founder of the ‘Hello and Cookie’ brand, now found herself shimmying from baking cookies to the other end of the spectrum - plastering controversially hilarious billboards across Aotearoa to promote GGO.

GGO , (who we are SO proud to say have been a absolutely huge support to Women on Top and the charities we auction for since day one of our events ) are now sitting on over 65k insta followers and gathering thousands of buyers across the South Pacific. The brand led by Jo and Viv is now leading the way in normalising sex and healthy conversation about sex and we can’t wait to have Jo join us at this next event . Maybe we’ll hear some more wild reviews? *fingers crossed*

MARY HILL

Partner, Cooney Lees Morgan Law Firm & President of the RMLA

Mary, Partner at very popular and local law firm Cooney Lees Morgan was clearly destined to a life of law after choosing it over a scholarship to a fine arts school. After working at a large scale law firm in Auckland, she took a Masters in commercial law and won a scholarship, moved to Mount Maunganui knowing no one but her husband. After accepting a job at Cooneys as a resource management lawyer, She found she loved working for local authorities and the policy dimension to environmental law.

Mary postponed a partnership opportunity to have two energetic boys and then got back into things full swing, and is now the current President of the Resource Management Law Association and is knee deep in the resource management law reforms. She keeps sane by practicing ashtanga yoga, which she discovered over 20 years ago. In the future she may paint again..She also loves songs and wine-tasting, so this is her kind of event.

KIRIWAITINGI REI

Chief Executive Officer of Maori Investments Ltd - Director of Bay Of Plenty Rugby Union - Chair of Putauaki Trust

Kiriwaitingi started her career as a lawyer in Rotorua and is a descendent of Te Arawa, Ngati Awa and Ngati Toa. She is the CEO of Maori Investments Limited, a highly successful asset holding company in the eastern Bay of Plenty that has an asset portfolio that includes forestry, several kiwifruit orchards, and a retail blueberry business.

Kiriwaitingi’s career has included management roles in a Treaty post-settlement entity and prior to that, as a solicitor and in-house counsel. She holds a number of governance roles including Deputy Chair of the Maori Kiwifruit Growers Forum, Chair of Putauaki Trust, Ngati Awa Group Holdings Limited and the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union- In fact she was the first ever woman to be appointed to the BOP Rugby Board in its 108 year history.

She was also a Future Director of Auckland International Airport. Phew! Kiriwaitingi is not only a huge inspiration to wāhine, she has supported so many women in business and their careers. It’s a privilege to have her join us to tell her story.

STACEY JONES

Chairwoman of Flavours of Plenty Festival & Founder of Kitchen Takeover

Stacey is back with us this time to tell us all about Flavours of Plenty Festival 2022! Stacey who is the Founder and brainchild of secret supper club / pop-up kitchen - Kitchen Takeover is also the Chairwoman of Flavours of Plenty Festival. She’s a London lass with a hellofalotta experience ( she worked on the Premiere of Devil Wears Prada) and this year she has teamed together with Tourism Bay Of Plenty.

Stacey who is passionate about both food and the Bay , managed to rally up the hospitality community to bring heads together to form this creative festival that happened in April 2022. This will hopefully be the first of many, and with the struggles of Red Covid settings , Stacey will give us some insight as to how it all came together. She will also talk about food. I don’t know about you but I just LOVE listening to Stacey Jones talk about food .

KATY CLARK

Founder of ‘Mingle & Me’

Have you thought of starting your own business? Yeah me too, but I have no idea where to start.

I’ve known Katy since the beginning of our generation of Hospitality days in Mount Maunganui and in 2021 Katy took that brave leap from working for the man every night and day to starting up her own business from scratch.

Katy is well known across the hospitality sector in Aotearoa for her impeccable bartending and cocktail mixology skills and has taken home a heap awards for this skill set at the Bay Hospitality and NZ _____ . Since starting her business she has run private bar events for many clients ( including our newlywed host ; Mrs Taane )

She’s going to give us a very honest yarn on how she started her own business , the bumps along the way, her growing success and the ways to find the answer to ‘ Where do I begin?’

** Note : As we have now moved to a smaller capacity venue, ticket sales are limited to 100 . Make sure you get your early to avoid missing out
