Join Liz Mitchell for a hands-on wool felting workshop, inspired by Daegan Wells’ exhibition Because of where I live currently on display in The Changing Room. Learn how to construct a small-scale felted object utilising off-loom felting processes. Harness the experience and materiality of working with raw wool and have fun doing so.
Tickets are priced at $30 each. Spaces are limited, suitable for all ages. All materials provided.
Class structure:
- Introduction to wool fleeces, sheep breeds, wool fibre, hand spun yarns
- Wool felt samples from Liz Mitchell and the Wool Revolution Studio
- Off loom weaving - preparing strong warp threads
- Weft weaving – yarn, fibre and fleece
- Creating interesting thread structures - plaiting and plying
- Layering of weft patterning
- Wet felting demonstration Liz Mitchell
- Wet felting woven samples, different wool fibres can take longer to felt with lots of massaging
- Hot and cold water fulling technique
- Throwing the felt sample
- Towel rolling to further shrink the felt and remove excess water
- Participants will be taking a damp sample home. Please bring a towel with you to the class
