Join Bell &amp; Co. Food and Cultivate Christchurch with support from Greenroots Organics, CHIA and Darby Design for a Foundational Yoga Workshop at the XCHC with John Squire.
This workshop is for anyone interested in beginning yoga, but may feel intimidated heading to the studio with little or no experience. Perfect for complete beginners or more experienced yogis looking to refine their practice. The workshop will be followed by a cuppa, delicious juices and some healthy post-yoga nibbles.
John is an experienced teacher that enjoys working with beginner Yogis as well as experienced practitioners. John leads classes in workplaces, yoga studios, and homes throughout the city. Sessions often including a dynamic mix of vinyasa flow, power, and yin yoga. He will take us right through the basics, focusing strongly on alignment, intention and making poses work for each individual.
The workshop will begin with the basics of what Yoga actually is and the philosophy behind it. A chat about the different styles of yoga, class etiquette, followed by a 60 minute practice. You will learn about alignment, how to work towards ease and stability in foundational poses and the importance of the breath.
This is a workshop where you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you like. There will also be a chance to have a cuppa, a chat and sample Greenroots Organics juices, CHIA drinks and Bell &amp; Co. food.
All proceeds from the night will go towards helping Cultivate Christchurch set up a new yoga farm and movement space in their urban garden in the CBD. Cultivate Christchurch is a social enterprise building a network of productive urban farms that inspire and engage young people in our communities.
No previous yoga experience is needed – just bring yourself, a mat (we will provide some mats, but these are limited, so best to bring your own or a thick towel if you can’t find one) and some comfortable, stretchy clothes.

I became fully involved in Yoga in my 40's, following a serious motorcycle accident (turns out Mums warnings were well founded). As a Somatic movement coach, I have a keen interest in helping people who are experiencing pain and discomfort either as a result of accident, injury, or repetitive movement issues, to become more comfortable, mobile, and able to live their life to the fullest. My mission is to help folks achieve optimal wellbeing. To make the most of the energy they currently have, find more energy and, seek to adopt healthful habits. I'm a qualified Yoga Teacher, and Wellness Coach based in Christchurch NZ. My teaching takes place in workplaces, yoga studios, and homes throughout the city.
